Just for fun

Having fun with the kids is a must for any dad.  I took my kids to Lake Butler in West Chester, Ohio in an effort to have them catch some real fish.  This is dad's catch for the day:

The kids didn't land anything but they were close.  We were woefully unprepared for the size fish in this lake.  We brought our 6' spinning reels where everyone else was using 10' surf rods with bait casters.  We were the only ones to catch anything in the two hours we were there.

My oldest caught something that fought like mad but broke the line just before we could get a net on it.  My youngest caught something that retreated to some cover under water.  He fought for fifteen minutes - the fish coming out then retreating back in - before the line snapped and his monster got away.  When we go back we're bringing some larger poles and 30# line.

Here is my oldest's proud catch at a local camp that happens to have a fishing lake.  The camp leaders made him kiss-the-catch before throwing it back.  They said it was for good luck.
